Following the establishment of the Beckley Foundation’s drug policy advisory role to the Guatemalan government in 2011, Amanda was honoured in April 2012 to be invited by the then-President of Guatemala, Otto Pérez Molina, to establish a Beckley Foundation Latin American Chapter. The Chapter was launched at a ceremony in the Guatemalan Presidential Palace in July 2012, at which the President was the first acting Head of State to sign the Beckley Foundation Public Letter.
Through the Latin American Chapter, the President requested that the Beckley Foundation:
The Beckley Foundation Latin America Chapter produced two influential reports for the region (Paths for Reform: Proposed Options for Alternative Drug Policies in Guatemala and Illicit Drug Markets and Dimensions of Violence in Guatemala), investigating current trends of drug-related violence and proposing options for alternative drug policies.
