THE BECKLEY FOUNDATION CANNABIS COMMISSION NEWSLETER 2009

Greetings from Vienna , where we are presenting the findings of the Global Cannabis Commission Report at the United Nations Commission on Narcotic Drugs , which you may well have read about in the 6 March 2009 edition of the Economist . For your information we have attached a copy of the Extended Summary of the Report and its findings.

The dissemination of the Report is progressing very well. We have so far visited India , New Zealand and Mexico , where we have met with members of the governments and Opposition leaders. The Report has been very well received and has already encouraged the three former Latin American Presidents, Fernando Cardoso of Brazil (who has endorsed our Report ), Ernesto Zedillo of Mexico and Cesar Gaviria of Colombia to call for the decriminalisation of cannabis in recognition that the War on Drugs has failed, and that it is time to seek other policy options (to see article, click here ).

Here in Vienna the Report and its findings are attracting much interest at satellite and bilateral meetings with NGOs and delegates from different countries. More news later…
